ROYALS TOPPED BY GIANTS
Victoria edged 3-2 by Vancouver
in pre-season match-up.

Ladner, BC- The Victoria Royals allowed two special teams goals as they were
defeated 3-2 by the Vancouver Giants on Saturday afternoon at the Ladner
Leisure Centre.
Victoria
opted for a split of veterans and rookies in their line-up, and iced 10 of
each. Vancouver countered with a veteran heavy lineup, and dressed only four
rookies.
The
Giants broke a 1-1 tie in the middle frame when Brennan Menell capitalized on
the man-advantage. Vancouver’s Carter Popoff would score the game winner on a
shorthanded tally in the third period. The Royals’ added a powerplay marker of
their own from Logan Fisher with 7:21 remaining in the contest. Victoria rookie
Zach Russell tallied his first goal of the pre-season in the opening period,
while the Giants’ Dakota Odgers scored the other marker for the homeside.
The
teams played two goalies each, switching them out mid-way through the second
period. Victoria’s Dylan Myskiw made 18 save on 19 shots, while Griffen
Outhouse stopped 11 of 13 shots. Vancouver’s Cody Porter and Payton Lee
combined to stop 30 of 32 shots directed their way.
The
Royals will play their lone home contest of the pre-season tomorrow against the
Vancouver Giants. Puck drop is set for 2:05 p.m. at Save-On-Foods Memorial
Centre.
