The Victoria Royals’ scored two goals in each of the first
two periods to defeat the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-1 in pre-season action on
Friday night at the ShoWare Center.
Victoria
went with a mixture of 11 veterans and eight rookies in their line-up. Seattle
countered with seven rookies and 13 veterans.
The Royals
took a 2-0 advantage into the second period on goals 1:34 apart from Jared
Dmytriw and Vladimir Bobylev. Victoria’s Matthew Phillips and Dmytriw, with his
second tally of the night, would double the away side’s lead. The Thunderbirds’
lone marker was notched by Alexander True in the final frame.
Victoria’s
20-year-old goaltender Coleman Vollrath got the nod in net and turned aside 28
of 29 shots. Seattle’s netminders Taz Burman and Logan Flodell combined to stop
25 of 29 shots.
Both the
Royals and Thunderbirds went 0/3=0.0% on the powerplay.
Victoria
scratched Regan Nagy, Matt Dykstra and Jordan Wharrie; along with regulars Joe
Hicketts, Jack Walker, Chaz Reddekopp and rookie Evan Smith who were all away
attending NHL training camps.
The
Royals will wrap up their 2015 pre-season tomorrow night against the Everett
Silvertips. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
