Victoria falls 5-3
to Seattle in second day of Everett tournament.

Royals allowed two goals in each of the final two periods in a 5-3 loss to the
Seattle Thunderbirds on Saturday afternoon at the annual Holiday Inn Pre-Season
Classic.
For the
second straight contest Victoria took the opportunity to give their younger
players on the roster some game time. The Royals dressed 10 rookies, while the
Thunderbirds went with seven in their line-up.
Seattle led
3-1 through two periods of play before Gustav Olhaver scored 40 seconds into
the final frame to extend their advantage. Both teams exchanged powerplay
markers as Matthew Phillips tallied for the Royals and Ethan Bear for the
Thunderbirds. Victoria’s Regan Nagy would round out the scoring.
Alex
Forsberg notched the Royals first goal of the game in the second period. The
Thunderbirds other markers were scored by Jamal Watson, Sahvan Khaira and
Brandon Schuldhaus.
Victoria
netminder and Nashville Predators prospect, Evan Smith stopped 37 of 42 shots
directed at him. Seattle countered with rookie Ryan Gilchrist, who turned aside
27 out of the 30 shots on the night.
The Royals
went 2/6=33.3% on the man-advantage, while the Thunderbirds were 2/5=40.0%.
Victoria
scratched captain Joe Hicketts, along with veterans Logan Fisher, Coleman
Vollrath, Ethan Price and Landon Welykholowa.
The Royals
wrap up the three-game pre-season tournament in Everett tomorrow with an 11:30
a.m. match-up vs. the Tri-City Americans.
Victoria’s
lone home contest of the pre-season is set for Sunday, September 13th
when they host the Vancouver Giants. Puck drop is set for 2:05 p.m. at
Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.
