Everett, WA- The Victoria Royals allowed two goals in each of the final two periods in a 5-3 loss to the Seattle Thunderbirds on Saturday afternoon at the annual Holiday Inn Pre-Season Classic.

For the second straight contest Victoria took the opportunity to give their younger players on the roster some game time. The Royals dressed 10 rookies, while the Thunderbirds went with seven in their line-up.

Seattle led 3-1 through two periods of play before Gustav Olhaver scored 40 seconds into the final frame to extend their advantage. Both teams exchanged powerplay markers as Matthew Phillips tallied for the Royals and Ethan Bear for the Thunderbirds. Victoria’s Regan Nagy would round out the scoring.

Alex Forsberg notched the Royals first goal of the game in the second period. The Thunderbirds other markers were scored by Jamal Watson, Sahvan Khaira and Brandon Schuldhaus.

Victoria netminder and Nashville Predators prospect, Evan Smith stopped 37 of 42 shots directed at him. Seattle countered with rookie Ryan Gilchrist, who turned aside 27 out of the 30 shots on the night.

The Royals went 2/6=33.3% on the man-advantage, while the Thunderbirds were 2/5=40.0%.

Victoria scratched captain Joe Hicketts, along with veterans Logan Fisher, Coleman Vollrath, Ethan Price and Landon Welykholowa.
