BC- The Western
Hockey League (WHL) today announced that Victoria Royals’ forward Alex Forsberg
has been named the WHL Player of the week.
Forsberg, a
native of Waldheim, SK recorded seven points (2g-5a) in the Royals two game
sweep of the Portland Winterhawks this past weekend and is tied for first in
league scoring.
The 5-11,
192 lb forward becomes the fifth player (Brandon Magee – 2014-15, Travis Brown
- 2014-15, Joe Hicketts - 2014-15 and Alex Gogolev - 2012-2013) in Victoria
Royals team history to receive the WHL Player of the Week award.
The 1995-born veteran is in his second season with the Royals after being acquired from the Saskatoon Blades at last year’s trade deadline. In 32 games with Victoria, Forsberg has notched 15 goals and 17 assists.
Forsberg is
in his fifth and final season in the WHL and has tallied 152 points (58g-94a)
in a 199 career games split between the Royals, Blades and Prince George
Cougars.
Victoria
will continue their six game home stand with a back-to-back home series against
Kamloops on Friday and Saturday night. Puck drop for both games are scheduled
for 7:05 p.m.
