to receive Professional & Scholastic Alumni Achievement Awards.

The Victoria Royals are proud to announce that former
Victoria WHL alumni Grant Fuhr and Tyler Stahl will be the recipients of the
club’s Professional and Scholastic Alumni Achievement Awards as part of the
WHL’s 50th season.
The Royals
will present Fuhr and Stahl with the awards during the club’s Turn Back the
Clock Night on Saturday, November 14th versus the Seattle
Thunderbirds.
GRANT FUHR
Fuhr
will receive the Professional Alumni Achievement Award for his numerous
accomplishments during his 20-year career in the NHL.
The
5-11, 184 lb netminder played two seasons (1979-81) in the WHL for the Victoria
Cougars where he helped the team win the 1981 WHL Championship. In 102 contests
with Victoria, Fuhr collected a record of 78-21-1 to go along with a 2.84 goals
against average, a 0.909 save percentage and six shutouts.
The
Spruce Grove, AB native was selected by the Edmonton Oilers eighth overall in
the 1981 NHL Entry Draft and went on to play for the Oilers, Toronto Maple
Leafs, Buffalo Sabres, Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues and Calgary Flames,
where he recorded 403 wins in 868 games.
During
his professional career, Fuhr won five Stanley Cups (Edmonton – 1984, 1985,
1987, 1988 & 1990) two Canada Cup gold medals (1984 & 1987) a World
Championship silver medal (1989), and a Vezina trophy as the league’s top
goaltender (1988). He was also inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2003.
TYLER STAHL
Stahl
will be recognized with the Scholastic Alumni Achievement Award for his
educational success at Olds College where he became a certified Agricultural
Heavy Equipment Technician. He is currently pursuing his Bachelor of
Business Management Degree at Athabasca University, while working in his trade.
The
product of Drumheller, AB played four seasons with the Victoria/Chilliwack
franchise (2009-13) and tallied five goals, 25 assists and 465 penalty minutes
in 188 games.
The
6-2, 215 lb defender captained the Royals during his last season with the club
(2012-13) where he notched a career high 12 points (4g-8) to go along with 87
minutes in penalties in 41 contests.
Stahl
was drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the sixth round, 167th
overall in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
Victoria
opens their 2015-16 WHL Regular Season at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre
with a pair of games vs. the Portland Winterhawks on Friday and Saturday night.
